Hello everyone,

My trip to Germany was very successful and I am excited to share with you what I learned.  As I mentioned in my last blog I wanted to travel with a purpose. My purpose of the trip was to learn more about myself as a rider and individual.  I spent 2 full days with Michael Aabo trying up to 7 horses a day. I had my life coach Jovanna, with me and her support was wonderful.  My bestie, Athena was there to support me and cheer me on!  As we traveled through the beautiful Holstein region the feeling of gratitude overwhelmed me. My heart sang as I realized what was happening to me. I was finally doing what I loved~ being surrounded by supportive friends and challenge myself through the way of horses.

We arrived to the first stable; it was immaculately landscaped with giant trees and yellow daffodils. The barn looked as if it was in a magazine it was so perfect. As I walked into the barn I saw a beautiful grey horse with polished hooves,  ears straight up, and ready to show me who he was. Peter was stunning, a real eye catcher. I remember the days when I did not even pay attention to the eyes. I know for me, the eyes tell so much. I think the eyes tell where a horse has been and where they want to go....

With Michael being the successful international rider he is, he has a tendency to push me further than my comfort zone.  As the jumps went up to 1.30m my heart started to race a little faster. In that moment I was so thankful I had the tools to understand why this was happening. I was afraid of making a mistake in front of Peter's owner. I realized my anxiety was rising, and reminded myself that there is no such thing as a mistake. There are only mis-takes. I cantered up to a 1.30 meter oxer a little deep, asked Peter to fit it and he did. I knew then we had found a match that complimented both of us. I believe it is not only about finding a horse that matches me, but a rider that matches the horse. In my experience, it is essential for  both horse and rider to be comfortable.
If a horse can make me feel totally comfortable jumping 1.30 meters then I respect that connection.
After all that, I see how establishing a relationship from the beginning with the horse is a key element in a successful partnership.

I learned from this instance staying expanded is key when facing challenges. When something seems scary, unfamiliar, or terrifying if I stay expanded, lean towards it so many lessons come. The biggest lesson I learned from Peter was that a connection is what makes a relationship work. Without connection, there is very little room for much else.

I left with the feeling that I could actually breathe now....

All was not shiny and bright though! I did try an amazing mare that taught me a lot about fear and what to do with it to move me in a direction of higher awareness. I will feature Lady Caja in my next blog.

Traveling with a Purpose and Letting Go...

Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go.
Herman Hesse

I read this quote this morning standing in line to board my plane to Chicago.  I love Herman Hesse and these words really struck me as important for my trip. I am on my way to Europe to spend time with friends, watch the Klitschko-Mormeck fight in Dusseldorf, and find my next competition horse in Hamburg! I am beyond blessed! I am beyond excited! I am beyond grateful.

I thought about how much my life has changed in the past year. As I felt myself about to cry tears of joy and sadness I was overwhelmed by the sense of love I now have in my "community". My new life is filled with wonderful people who have supported me all the way. I never could have dreamt my life would be this way. I imagine this is how horses feel when they are in their herds.

I was reminded that traveling with a purpose is always a good way to "see" where my journey takes me. My purpose for this trip will be to learn more about myself, recognize my strengths and weaknesses, and to listen. Most of all, I am going to have fun and enjoy every moment knowing that each moment is a gift.

I will be spending 2 days with Michael Aabo trying horses throughout the Holstein region in Northern Germany. I cannot wait to share with you the experiences of my horse trials! Looking for that one horse to meets me right where I am at, and eager to be a part of something big is a dream come true. I will also visit my family of horses at his farm~ Madame Butterfly, Casino's Cool-Aide, and Cybil will for sure be a part of a photo shoot!

I intend a day of immense joy and love for each one of you....

Keep Dreaming,

A Reminder to Keep Dreaming BIG!!

I was reminded a few days ago about how horses seem to bring out the pureness of love in children. My 7 year old niece Sophia sent me a message about a pony she wanted to buy. Sophia normally rides an adorable pony named Charlie at her barn in Florida, but he has gone back to his owner. The excitement in her words sounded like she had fallen in love with the thought of getting a new pony. Her words were “Auntie, I really love this pony…will you buy it for me”?  My heart felt so full of love and tears of joy fell on my face. I totally understood this deep love for horses. When I was her age I was picking crops in the dead head of summer to afford to buy my own pony.
It is beautiful to see how horses have influenced Sophia. Daring to dream can only come from loving something so much we can’t help but dream it and dream it BIG. Can it be the love for horses brings out the passion, creativeness, and pure love in a child?  What it is about the horses? When I was with my pony I was myself, Poncho was himself, and together we were living the dream. I have no doubt that Sophia will get her pony that she will cherish, care for, and learn from…somehow, someway, it will happen.
Thank you to Sophia for reminding me to keep dreaming BIG...

Dreaming with you,

Life Lessons through Horses...

Have you ever thought of horses as teachers?

I am not talking about teaching you how to use your control, get what you want, jump big jumps, or keep your heels down. I am taking this a little deeper...what have you learned about your self and life through horses?

Communication is key for any relationship...without it there is very little room for growth. I took this photo when I was living in Lexington, Kentucky. This herd of yearlings were in constant communication with each other and never once hesitated to let one another know how they felt.

Presence is what horses are masters at...they have been my best teacher for staying the moment.
Passion for life..some horses make it quite obvious what they are passionate about.;being herself.
Well, not many words needed for this one....horses  are love.

I feel it is time to get real with this whole horses as teachers modality. What if we could just take a moment to look at what a wonderful opportunity we have to grow even more as individuals and change the world just through watching horses? Would we would be better prepared for life's sometimes "special" moments?  Horses teach us everything we need to know about relationships and how to communicate with our families, beloveds,  or co-workers.  I invite you next time you are around these magnificent teachers, let them show you how they handle life, you may be quite surprised. I was and I am grateful that I listened.

We are all inspired by many things in life and my inspiration happens to come from horses....
I am interested in knowing what inspires you to be an even more fabulous YOU?

Thank you all for being YOU...

With much and appreciation,

Jocelyn xoxo

Through the Lens...

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.  ~Henry David Thoreau

Photography, just like horses, has helped me to access my creative side and my imagination. With my camera I am able to capture the moments I see and feel. I would like to share with you some images that help me to see the world through the lens......
